OPPIDUM
Competition for the complex Im Grund Willisau
Willisau, 2016

The project should be read neither as a conclusion nor as an extension of the historic centre, but as a transition towards a more open and less dense settlement structure. For this reason, the development is geometrically precise on the inside, while the external development refers to the neighbouring buildings in terms of scale and massing.
The courtyard space, framed by a two-storey portico, constitutes the urban and social focal point of the project, an urban space that intends to contribute to urban life through its immediately nearby functions. In this meaning, we send a clear signal of the meeting of functions and generations, proposing a dense urban development that draws its strength from public space.
